Let's Try This Again....................

I can't believe it's been over a year since my last entry. I recently joined another bake-along group. We are going to be making the breads from the new book Healthy Bread in 5 Mintues a Day. We don't officially start until January, but were offered the option of making the Pumpkin Pie Brioche (it is that time of year after all!) I really enjoyed making this bread - I made a few modifications: I used an egg substitute, extra light olive oil and agave syrup. I also added cinnamon, ginger, cloves and nutmeg to the sugar I sprinkled on top of the loaves. Very tasty - the flavors definitely become more pronounced a few days after baking - if it lasts that long! I made a 1/2 recipe, which you can see yielded 2 medium boules and a mini boule. If you want the recipe, you'll need to head over to Michelle's site - she's our leader. And even if you don't want the recipe, you should visit anyway - it's a great blog.

Oh - and to try and keep myself from gaining EVEN more weight, I ran my very first 5K this morning!! Nine weeks ago, I had not run in over 20 years. I started the Couch to 5K running program. AWESOME!! This program, over the course of 9 weeks, takes you from sitting on your couch to running 30 minutes. Now, for some people (me not being one of them ;p) 30 minutes is the amount of time to run that distance. Today, for the first time ever, I ran 5K (a little longer than 3 miles!) Thanks C25K!!!

Your bread looks beautiful. Congrats on the 5K. Maybe I should be looking into that couch to 5K. Not that I want to run any marathons but it would get me off the couch! LOL

Your boules looks wonderful and this is something I need to practice...a lot!!! Your crumb looks perfect!!

I've been meaning to pick up some agave syrup as I do like it better then honey in bread recipes.

Congrats on the running program. Keep us updated.

Good for you on running your 5K. That is amazing and something I wish I could do. I love your boules - so pretty. I've never shaped one before and I'm a little nervous about it.

They look yummy! Especially the warm bread with butter. I also like your idea of mixing a little of the spices with the sugar.

I've always made the sweet doughs in pans, but your boules are inspiring. I think I'll try that next time. Very Nice!

I doubled the spices when I made the dough but I really like your idea of adding spices to the sugar sprinkled on top too!

Congrats on the 5K run!

Congratulations on your 5K! That is an exciting first step into the running world. Any thoughts of longer runs in your future?

The bread looks lovely. SO cute how you measure how much it has risen, as if it were your child (it kind of is).

If I ran a 5K I wouldn't have to worry about bread baking! Now to just get off the couch. Nice brioche!

Your bread looks beautiful! I love that you used agave syrup. I've been making my own organic corn syrup and using in a variety of ways, but hadn't used it in bread. Thanks for the idea!

These look delicious! What did you use to replace the 4 eggs? I'd really like to try this and the brioche in ABin5 but am having trouble figuring out what to replace such a large number of eggs with. Thanks!
